Starting a new fitness program can come with questions—and that’s completely normal. At Strengthening the Suncoast, we believe you should feel informed, comfortable, and confident before you begin.

Our approach is simple: personalized strength training, professional coaching, and a program designed around you. Whether you’re new to exercise, returning to a routine, or looking for a smarter way to maintain strength and mobility, we’re here to help.

Do I need to be in shape before I start?
Not at all. We work with people at every fitness level. You don’t need to be strong or experienced to get started. Your program is tailored to your current abilities, goals, and comfort level, and your coach will help you progress at your own pace.
Is strength training safe?
Yes, when performed properly and appropriately for the individual. Every session is conducted one-on-one with a certified fitness professional who guides you through your workout on specialized equipment, monitors your form and technique, and adjusts the program to your fitness level and goals. Slow cadence training and focusing on form under supervision, reduces the chance of injury.

Our clients range from teenagers to adults well over 90, from beginners to athletes and everyone in between.

How often should I train?
For many clients, one 20-minute session per week is an effective and convenient way to build and maintain strength. Some choose to train twice a week, depending on their goals.

During your complimentary orientation, we’ll learn more about you and help determine a schedule that fits your lifestyle and objectives.

How long does it take to see results?
Everyone responds differently, but many clients begin noticing positive changes within the first few weeks of consistent training.

Early improvements include greater strength, better balance and mobility, increased energy, and greater ease with everyday activities. Physical changes may follow with continued training.

The key is consistency—and giving your body time to adapt and grow stronger.

What other benefits can I expect?
While building strength is our primary focus, effective strength training supports:
  • Bone health: Effective Resistance training can help support bone density and skeletal strength.
  • Metabolism: Building muscle can increase calorie expenditure and support metabolic health.
  • Joint function: Regular movement and strength training can support mobility and joint function.
  • Emotional well-being: Exercise can support mood, energy, and overall well-being.

What should I wear to my workout?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Athletic shoes are recommended, although some clients prefer supportive sandals.

The most important thing is to feel comfortable and have appropriate support while exercising.

Is my workout one-on-one?
Yes. Every workout is personalized and conducted one-on-one with a certified fitness professional.

Rather than following a group class or one-size-fits-all routine, your coach focuses on your specific needs, abilities, goals, and progress during every session.

Is this another fad?
No. The slow-cadence strength training approach used at Strengthening the Suncoast has roots dating back to the 1970s and gained broader attention following research at the University of Florida Medical School in 1982. This study showed that extremely slow weightlifting done properly on specialized equipment improved strength, bone density and overall wellbeing.

The approach has continued to evolve and is used by fitness professionals and trainers who recognize the value of controlled, purposeful resistance training.

Is strength training appropriate for older adults?
Absolutely. Strength training can be especially valuable as we age because maintaining strength, balance, mobility, and independence becomes increasingly important.

Many of our clients want to stay strong, continue doing the things they enjoy, and maintain their quality of life. Every program is adapted to the individual.

Is Strengthening The Suncoast only for older adults?
Not at all. We work with adults of many ages and fitness levels.

Some clients want to maintain strength and mobility. Others want to improve their fitness, support an active lifestyle, complement another sport, or simply feel stronger in everyday life.

Our approach is personalized to the individual—not based on age.
.
Can strength training help with everyday activities?
Yes. Strength is an important part of maintaining independence and making everyday movement easier.

Improved strength can help support activities such as climbing stairs, carrying groceries, gardening, lifting grandchildren, getting in and out of a car, and keeping up with the activities you enjoy.

Our goal isn’t simply to make you stronger in the studio. It’s to help you put that strength to work in everyday life.

Do you offer stretching and flexibility training?
Yes. We offer personalized stretching sessions designed to support flexibility, range of motion, and comfortable movement. Stretching can be incorporated into a broader fitness program based on your individual needs and goals.
Do you offer fitness programs for golfers?
Yes. Our golf-focused fitness program is designed to help golfers develop the strength, balance, flexibility, stability, and mobility needed to support an active golf game while also helping to avoid injuries.

The program is personalized to your abilities and goals, with an emphasis on helping you move more effectively and confidently both on and off the course.

Do you offer Corporate Wellness programs?
Yes. We work with businesses interested in supporting the health and well-being of their employees.

We can develop customized wellness opportunities that encourage employees to become stronger, more active, and more intentional about their physical well-being.

What makes Strengthening the Suncoast different?
Our approach combines a highly efficient and effective 20-minute strength training protocol, medical-grade equipment, and individualized coaching in a semi-private, supportive environment.

You aren’t left to figure it out on your own. A certified fitness professional works with you one-on-one and adjusts your program as you progress.

For many clients, the convenience of training just once a week makes it easier to stay consistent—and consistency is where meaningful change begins.

Can I just do this at my regular gym with normal equipment?
The equipment at Strengthening the Suncoast is different. Originally designed for physical therapy and rehab, it allows us to accommodate individual strength levels and physical limitations.

The equipment features a cam-and-pulley system designed to provide smooth, consistent resistance throughout the range of motion, with weight adjustments as small as two pounds.

Our certified coaches are trained and certified in the slow-cadence protocol and provide a focused, distraction-free workout. They know how to challenge you appropriately while emphasizing proper technique and safety.

Do I need a membership?
No long-term membership is required.

Your first step is a complimentary orientation where we’ll discuss your goals, exercise history, and health considerations, answer your questions, and determine whether our approach is right for you.

We also believe you should only pay for the sessions you use. If you’re traveling, miss a week, or need time away, you aren’t charged for a session you didn’t schedule.

For clients who prepay, sessions do not expire. And if you decide not to continue, any remaining balance for unused sessions can be refunded.

What if I can't continue for any reason?
You can purchase individual sessions or prepay for sessions at a discounted rate. If you purchase a package and decide not to continue, we will refund the balance of your unused sessions—no medical note required.
